We at Stepping Stones believe we can use our place in the community to draw attention and support those children who are in need in our own community and those vulnerable children throughout the world whose voice goes unheard.
In 2008 we came across an opportunity to support The Frontline and the work of Dr Robi Sonderegger where his EMPOWER program is changing lives of those most vulnerable of children. THE FRONTLINE is a project of the Family Challenge Charitable Trust that seeks to empower disenfranchised community members affected by trauma associated with war, child-exploitation and natural disaster.
Over the past decade, expert trauma consultant Dr Robi has been
- Developing and validating evidence-based therapeutic interventions for refugees
- Providing trauma rehabilitation training for humanitarian organisations, church groups, government departments, and educational institutions operating in disaster zones around the world.
The program is expanding to children throughout Africa, Asia, South Pacific and the Middle East.
Each year Marymead supports approximately 1000 children and families in various ways:
- Assisting parents in the care of their children and themselves through family skills and relationship courses;
- Preventing family breakdown by providing family support, intensive therapeutic intervention, respite and crisis care for children and young people;
- Providing caring, stable and responsible foster and residential care for children who cannot live with their family of origin;
- Recognising the special needs of and providing support to families with a family member who has a disability ;
- Supporting separated families and children who require a safe and understanding environment for contact and changeover arrangements.
Corporate Social Responsibility remains a key principle for Stepping Stones Child Care Centres, which will ensure that we continue to make a positive contribution to society at a local, national and international level. We look forward to sharing the journey with you and your family.
